Parent Evenings

If your Child has died and you wish to decrease your isolation, maybe Anam Cara is for you

Anam Cara understands we don’t live in an ideal world, we live in the real world and our precious children have died before their time. Bereaved parents set up this organisation to provide bereaved parents with information and an opportunity to connect with other bereaved Mums and Dads either face to face or online.

What is the purpose of the Anam Cara Support Evenings?

For bereaved parents the loneliness and isolation following the death of our son or daughter can be overwhelming. The Anam Cara parents evenings afford bereaved parents a safe and comfortable place where they have an opportunity to meet with other bereaved parents.

Where do these Anam Cara Parent Evenings take place and what format does it take?

The Anam Cara parent evenings are informal get togethers for parents to chat over a cup of tea or coffee, they normally take place in a comfortable Hotel or Family Resource Centre. The evenings are facilitated by Bereavement  Professional who is supported by our Volunteer Parents.

How soon can I go to these meetings?

There is no right or wrong time to attend an Anam Cara support meeting. Most of us desperately want to talk to another bereaved parent after our son or daughter has died, to try and make some sense of the pain and despair we feel. We would recommend you call 01 4045378 or 085 2 888 888 to find the nearest meeting to you.

Alternatively visit our website to view our video and information booklets for bereaved parents, these resources were developed by bereaved parents.

The Anam Cara Message Forum is an online resource you can register to read posts from  bereaved parents and how they faced and overcame the many challenges and milestones faced on their journey through grief and loss. Click here to register to view this forum.

How can the Anam Cara group help me?

By getting together with other bereaved parents who although on the same journey, may be a little further along, can offer you an opportunity to talk to someone who completely understands how you are feeling and as some of our bereaved parents have testified, give you some hope that you will cope and survive through the intense grief and feelings of loss.

My child died as an adult. Can I still attend the Anam Cara groups?

Of course. Anam Cara events are open to all parents regardless of the age of their child, the circumstances of their death, or whether that death was recent or not.

I may find it hard to attend on my own, what would be best for me to do?

At Anam Cara we do understand that it can take a lot of courage to go to these events, if you would prefer, we could arrange for one of our volunteers to meet you just before the meeting starts. If you would like to do this, just drop us an email to info@anamcarani.co.uk

Anam Cara groups offer empathy, compassion and friendship.
