Shauna Quinn

IN HEBREW AND GAELIC MEANS ‘GOD IS GRACIOUS’

31st December 1982 -21st September 2002

The name Shauna in Hebrew and Gaelic means ‘ God is Gracious’ We had the lend of Shauna for a wonderful 19 years 9 months and 21 days and she was all that gracious means kind and courteous warm and caring and that is just one of the reasons we miss her so much.
When I read this poem it seemed Shauna was speaking to me and I am drawn to it again and again:

For those i love & those who love me when i am gone, release me, let me go, i have so many things to see and do, you mustn’t tie yourself to me with tears, be thankful for our beautiful years. I gave you my love. You can only guess how much you gave to me in happiness. I thank you for the love each have shown, but it’s time I travelled alone.

So grieve a while for me, if grieve you must, then let your grief be comforted by trust.
It’s only for a time we must part so bless the memories within your heart.
I won’t be far away, for life goes on so if you need me, call and I will come.
Though you can’t see or touch me, I’ll be near and if you listen with your heart, you’ll hear all my love around you, soft and clear.

And then, when you must come this way alone, I’ll greet you with a smile, and say- “Welcome Home!

My daughter Shauna was beautiful, educated, travelled, with a special gift. When you met her, even if only for a few minutes, you were left with a feel good factor. She lifted your spirits.
SHAUNA was born on New Year’s Eve 1982. She was a very well educated, bubbly girl who took top marks in her GSCE and A levels. She wanted to study human right’s international law at Cork University.

Before doing that, Shauna had taken a gap year and had enrolled with Raleigh International and went to Namibia. For three months she worked on a variety of projects, including building a classroom and a viewing stand for watching the animals etc. This was very hard physical work but Shauna enjoyed it.

When she returned to Ireland she worked part-time at the college. She then applied for voluntary work at the Vatican in Rome and in April of that year she commenced working to assist the organisation of the World Youth Day in Canada.

Shauna arrived back two weeks later and we travelled to Cork. We had a great few days picking her flat and she took me to the university and showed me all the places so I would know what she was talking about when she phoned.

On the Friday at 5pm Shauna phoned me and she was crying she said she would never speak to me again. I was surprised at this and told her not to be silly she was only going to Cork and after all she had travelled to Africa and America and everything was ok. That was the last conversation I had with Shauna.

On Saturday 21st September 2002 Shauna was killed in a Road Traffic Accident.
If I could see Shauna for one minute to give her a hug then I would run to the ends of the earth, I miss her so much …

Lots of Love
Mum
